The Rodrigo de Freita´s Lake is a major postcards of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil. With 2.4 million square meters of area and located in a prime local of the city, is on its water that the people practice many water sports, including canoeing. It was the place where the canoeing dispute occured in the XV Panamerican Games Rio 2007, opportunity to Brazil entered the history of the sport to ensure the achievement of six medals, record for the sport in the country.
The lake is surrounded by a cycleway and you can follow the canoeing events from several different points. During the Pan Rio 2007 were held in lake the canoeing, rowing and water skiing events. In its surroundings, are a stage of rowing (Rowing Stadium of the Lagoon), a paved cycleway path with 7.5 km long, several recreational facilities and kiosks for food, offering items from regional and international cuisine. It is the largest outdoor food center in Latin America, distributed in an area of 204 square meters.
